The night was long
Writhing in pain
Half alive half dead
The night I spent
Sun is up
Light on me thrust
This I dread
To get up from half dead.
Waking up to pain with pain
And nothing to gain
The curtains open
And the coconut tree beckons
Lush and fruit laden
Swaying gently in the moist breeze
Mellow sunshine
Air so fine adorned with speckles of rain
Dancing to a divine tune
I see it from the window grill
Prison bars but better shaped
Over which curtains drape
Giving a semblance of normalcy
To an otherwise existence
There was a branch
It used to slather the grill
Beckoning or mocking
I never could decide
Like a brother or an old enemy
I used to touch it sometimes caress
Then it was hacked pruned they say
Now it’s just out of reach
As if the tree’s lost an arm
The nuts I see nectar full
But impossible to savor
For restrained with pain I am
Limited my movements
I pine for the branch to grow again
For I need to get in touch
With reality!!
